We are delighted to share that our very own Dr Mary Retallack has been named a 2025 Women in Innovation Awards winner in the Sustainability category.
EcoGrowers are pioneering regenerative crop production through nature-based practices
Founded by agroecologist and viticulturist Dr Mary Retallack of Retallack Viticulture & Ecology, the EcoVineyards program has brought together more than 185 collaborators to help winegrowers nurture healthy soils, functional biodiversity and more resilient vineyard ecosystems — creating benefits for both growers and the environment.
Through agroecology and nature-based approaches, EcoVineyards demonstrates practical ways to improve resilience to extreme weather, strengthen vineyard ecosystems, support profitability and develop natural climate solutions, while creating opportunities for stacked enterprises.
Winegrowers across Australia are embracing regenerative practices including improving soil health, establishing diverse ground covers and increasing functional biodiversity.
What began as a national program has demonstrated the potential for these practical, grower-friendly approaches to be applied internationally and across agricultural sectors.
This award recognises not only Mary’s work, but the incredible community of EcoGrowers, wine regions, researchers, industry partners and collaborators who have helped turn the vision into action.
